Guidance

Dear BFW Families,

I am so excited to come back to Williams the 2016-2017 school year with you! Working with children has been a life-long passion. I look forward to preparing your child to be socially and academically successful in school. This a great place to be and I hope you have the same experience as a parent.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns and would like to contact me, you can email me at: knlogan@vbschools.com  or you can call me at: 757-648-4092.

I am looking forward to getting to know you and your children as we work together for the remainder of the school year.

Sincerely,
Kimberly Logan

About our School Counselor

Ms. Logan is a graduate of Old Dominion University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology. She also received a Master’s of Science in Education with a concentration in School Counseling. Some of her duties include SRT and 504 meetings, individual counseling, small group counseling, mediations, developing programs, and lunch bunches. Her hobbies include swimming, reading, outdoor activities, and spending time with her 2 year old son.

Guidance Programs Offered

  • Small groups are developed on an ‘as needed’ basis to target areas of concern within the school. Small groups could target such topics as organization, attendance, school performance, friendships, bullying, etc.
  • Lunch bunch is used as a reward to encourage students who are having difficulty behaving in the classroom environment. If students earn four fantastic days out of five, they may come to Lunch Bunch. This involves coming to the Guidance Office during lunch to play games, participate in an art activity or watch a movie.
Lunch Bunch is also used as a means to develop social skills. Pre-selected students come to the Guidance Office during lunch and in an informal setting, learn about and practice social skills.
  • Outstanding Character Award. Teachers select the student in their classroom who has most effectively exhibited the character trait of the month. The student is honored at a celebration. At the celebration, they are featured in a media presentation and share a treat with their parents. The program is a collaborative effort between the school and PTA.
  • Kid’s Choice Award. Students nominate parents and/or mentors who have motivated or encouraged their academic success. Two parents/mentors will be selected from each class. The parents are honored at a breakfast hosted by the school and the PTA. During the celebration, administration delivers a brief speech thanking parents for their efforts and reiterating the impact they are having on the school and the community.
